Wrap around service for pre school children during the school holidays

Little Nippers playgroup runs a wrap around service providing flexible childcare from 8.30- 3.30 Monday to Friday at wick family centre.

We are looking into providing this service for parents with children through out the summer holidays this year and have been told that there is available funding to cover some running costs if we can show that the service will benefit the local community. As parents ourselves we understand that six weeks is a long time for the little ones and hope to provide a fun packed holiday programme.

We have done our research and there are currently no other pre school childcare services run through out the summer.

In order to get this service up and running we need a rough figure of intrested parents to put forward to funders and committee members.

Do childminders not provide all year round childcare for any age child.

Childminders, with children of their own, usually have a couple of weeks off in the school hols, to spend time with their own children.
Its the lack of nursery school, toddlers and other things for pre schoolers in the hols as they all close, as well as the chilcare issues some parents might have, that makes this a good idea.
The school age kids have the option of the activities run by the council and holiday club type things, but, pre schoolers dont have those sort of options.
1 or 2 sessions a week to play with kids the same age and to keep a bit of routine in the week cant be a bad thing, considering a lot of the pre schoolers will be either starting school or at nursery/playschool after the summer.

I think this is a great idea and think it would benefit a lot of people it is a long summer holidays. Great idea if you need to get some shopping in without them at your feet, or get your hair done or something, without having to rope family members in if you are lucky to have them. Great for the kids to be able to go and play with others their own age for a whilie.

casper club in castletown school take children from the age of 2 and are open all throught the summer holidays and have a wide range of activities too and they also take the kids out on trips. last year they took around 40 kids with staff to landmark and a graet time was had by all.

We have had alot of interest in running the wrap around service throughout the summer and are taking this forward to the committee at the end of the month. We will keep everyone updated on our progress, so watch this space.

Sorry Should have made it a little clearer but the research we did was for the local Wick area.The group would run from Little Nippers playgroup @ Wick family centre and will be for children aged 2-5. We already provide the area with a well established Holiday and out of school club for children 4-12 years, but wanted to offer similar experiences and activities for pre school children whilst providing existing wrap around parents flexible and reliable childcare during the holidays.

You should get yourself a facebook page, then you can get lots of people from the local area, this would help you reach more people.

you could even set it up with your availablity so people could book places online etc
