We are to the west of the county in the nuclear zone and the last two nights between 8 and 9pm there has been several very loud noises, that sound like explosions or large guns being fired.
Any one aware of the navy,NATO or the like playing war games or are they blasting more holes at Dounreay?

The Dounreay police are playing cops and robbers with their guns this weekend. Some of them might just break sweat for the first time in years!

Could those noises have been sonic booms like an aircraft breaking the sound barrier? They will make noise like you explained.

No would recognise a sonic boom this was definitely the noise from a large piece of armoury or a muffled explosion on the 1st evening it happened twice in a matter of minutes.

There has been a bit of military aircraft activity. They drop 1000lb bombs at Cape Wrath. ?? Or the training at Dounreay.

I imagine it would be very realistic for the Dounreay workers. But mebbe that's what it takes to wake them up.
