I have my desktop PC connected to my wireless network with a Wifi USB dongle. Periodically, the connection will drop and it will tell me that the "default gateway is offline". I can't access the internet or anything on the network from my desktop. There is another desktop which is connected to the router through ethernet, it gets connection, and my iPod can get the wireless connection without any trouble. Sometimes the problem will be solved by pulling out the dongle, waiting a few minutes and putting it back into a different USB port. I'm running Windows 7, with an Edimax dongle.

Help?

Might be worth seeing if there are updated Win7 drivers for your Edimax dongle. Also the dongle may be going to sleep periodicaly - there is usually a setting to stop Windows doing this. Unfortunately I'm on an XP system at present so can't give precise details where, but it'll probably be in the wireless adapter properties.

try running glary utils
there could be several entries for the dongle and the registry might be in a fuddle about the port in use.

try this site. at the bottom it has drivers for the device. I am assuming its the same

when you first plugged in the dongle, did windows install its own driver or did you have to insert a CD Rom that came with it?

The problem seems to have gone away without doing anything... Quite bizarre really.

Thanks :)
