A little while ago, someone in Vancouver decided to try to live for a year on food produced within 100 miles of his home, thus e.g.: no wheat from the prairies. It was done with some difficulty.
Noting comments on another thread about supermarkets who import all of their supplies from down south - to the detriment of local producers - I wonder if a hundred mile diet would be possible in Caithness.
Nah, Morrison's Supermarket is 112 miles away ;)

Loving that Northener ! Quite right too, I think we have more than enough produce to survive within the said limits !! Plus we should be very proud of this as well - Butchers, Farmers, Vegetable suppliers, Milkin' coos and many fishermen/boats! :)
Don't think we'd ever be stuck for food in Caithness ! ;)
Whats all this malarky? What do you think the Empire is for? Hurrumph!

Yes, I like to support New Zealand butter, Australian Lamb, Canadian Cheddar, Indian curries, Zimbabwe & South Africa for my mange tout.. the list goes on - these poor people need our support!
Yes 'Fair Trade' wouldn't get very far with that attitude would it?
