Henry/Hendry Family of Hilliclay

I am looking into the Henry/Hendry Family of Hilliclay.

The head of the family was Donald Henry/Hendry christened on 19 Jul 1979 in Watten (Son of Donald Hendry & Isabel Calder), died 02 May 1885. Donald's wife was Helen Murray christened on 18 Apr 1802 in Wick (Daughter of James Murray & Isabel Water).

Donald & Helen had 7 Children;

- John Henry born c1829 in Wick
- Margaret Henry born c1832 in Wick
- Donald Henry born c1835 in Olrig
- James Henry born c1837 in Olrig
- Helen Henry born c1841 in Olrig
- Catherine Henry born c1843 in Olrig
- Marcus Henry bornc1845 in Olrig

All the information for the Children comes from the 1851-1881 Census results. I am unable to find any of the Birth Records for any of the children on Scotlands People or ScotsOrigins using both spelling variations of Henry and Hendry. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I transcribed the Olrig OPR for FREEREG and have just checked my data and your Henry family was not recorded in Olrig. Registration was not compulsary and maybe they could not afford the fee payable .

Thank you Rosemary for your help. Do you know when registration become compulsory? as I am unable to find birth records for Helen's b.c1841 children as well and they were born c1868.

Hi Cathy, have you checked Bower Parish, I have Donald Henry & Helen Murray's son Marcus Henry b 1845 BOWER in my tree. He died 1922 West End, Castletown, Olrig, he married Anne Dundas Swanson 1866 Canisbay, she was born 1847 Canisbay & died 1922 Olrig.

I Have searched all the parish records for all parish's in Caithness, on ScotlandsPeople, ScotsOrigins ect.. but am yet to stumble across any of the birth records. Marcus Henry is my 3x Great Granduncle. I have a fair amout of information concerning the Henry Family on my tree on ancestry, which i'll gladly share with you if you wish?

Helen married David Bremner on the 1st March 1889. David was her illegitimate son John Campbell brother-in-law.


Registration became compulsory in 1855. Who did Helen marry ?
