Respect to those crazed Thurso dippers today
The mad hypothermiacs, happy and gay
Who took to the sea in the coldest of weather
In lunatic charity water endeavour
Many were ladies, I tell you it’s true
Clad in bikini with T-shirt see-through
One dressed as horse, and a dragon as well
Some tan washed right off, it was fake you could tell
One lass I saw wore fluff leggings, I thought
A clever wee ploy, as warmth the girl sought
But then I saw spider’s legs waving at me
She just hadn’t shaved, ‘twas thick hairs I could see
A couple of blokes with tattoos stood erect
In Borat mankinis, not what you’d expect
Though cold wind affected them, what would we see?
Would anything jump out of tight mankini?
It wasn’t too rude cos once they’d done their thing
As high-voice sopranos those laddies could sing
Like thin sumo wrestlers ent’ring the tide
All items protruding withdrew straight inside
Five-Four-Three-Two-One went the crowd standing by
And the shivering dippers set off with a cry
First-aiders stood by to prevent early death
And the prize was for longest cold indraw of breath
Yes, the water rose higher as deeper they’d dance
And licked round their bottoms, and soaked their warm pants
The sea chilled their hearts and some bits shrank in cold
While others stuck out, or so I was told
Into the surf dashing with roar and a shout
Then tiptoeing, gasping as they rushed back out
And off for some soup and a well-deserved dram
(The whisky was malt and the soup was from ham)
Has feeling returned to the foot and the hand
Of Pentland Firth lunatic charity band?
Is slow steady beat back to frosty wee hearts?
Has glow entered into those chilled underparts?
We hail those brave dippers, that pure mental bunch
Who rose to occasion in fundraising crunch
So dip in your pocket and give then a pound
We hope they’re now warm and that nobody drowned!
