While planning my trip to Thurso in February I've realised it's way cheaper to fly from London to Kirkwall than to Wick. Does anyone know why? I know there's the ferry and all but if I want to see Orkney anyway...

You will find the longer the flight distance the cheaper the cost. It depends on the airports as well and how much they charge in taxes. To land in Edinburgh is dearer than landing in Wick.

There appears to be little sense in the fares in Scotland or even what you get on board. Flying wick to Edinburgh with flybe you get complimentary tea/coffee biscuits. Flying Glasgow to London is the same, fly Aberdeen to London and you are charged for everything !!!

FLight costs in Scotland are prohibitive and the further north you go the dearer it gets. You could possibly get a fortnight in spain with a package holiday for the price of flying to the islands .....
