Hello all,

The Boxing Day “dip with a nip” has arrived in Caithness. After incredibly successful Boxing Day mad dashes into the sea around Scotland for children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent last year, the event is being staged for the first time in Caithness, by Caithness Fund Raising Committee for CLIC Sargent.

THE DIP!

Those brave enough are being invited to go a little bonkers and plunge into the chilly waters of Thurso Bay at 2pm on Boxing Day 2010 (Sunday 26th December) and raise desperately needed funds for the Charity to support families in Caithness and the Highlands, who are fighting childhood cancer.

THE NIP!

OLD PULTENEY have kindly donated malts and liqueurs for all those brave "dippers" so you can have a well deserved nip to help warm up afterwords. These will be provided from a stall at the beach front. Before Boxing Day another 500 families will be given the chilling news that their child has cancer. By taking part folk in Caithness will be helping us support these youngsters from the age of a few weeks up to 24 years and their families wherever they need help.

EVERYTHING ELSE...

The Salvation Army have very generously let us have use of their hall for registration of "dippers" which will take place from 1pm on the day. We request the where possible participants take their sponsor sheets and any sponsorship money collected with them to hand in at registration.

The Salvation Army have also very kindly agreed to let us have use of their hall as a changing area for before and after the event.

* Please note that under no circumstances should there be any alcohol (open or unopen) taken into the Salvation Army Hall. This includes in any belongings left in the hall while taking part.

Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult.

The Caithness Fund Raising Committee promise this will be a really fun filled event. BABCOCK DOUNREAY PARTNERSHIP have kindly agreed to sponsoring the event, which ensures that all the money raised by the brave "dippers" will go directly to CLIC Sargent!

The event will be opened by the Lord Leiutenant of Caithness Anne Dunnett.

We will be having several prizes for highest fundraiser, best fancy dress, best team, oldest dipper etc....why not try and be the best business team?

We will have soup and tea for sale on the day to keep your hands warm and there will be food and music at the Grove Lounge, Thurso after the event....everyone welcome!!

So come on everyone, let’s have a bumper event and really make it a Boxing Day to remember. I might add as well that although we are hoping it will be popular, it won’t be necessary to register at 1am as the posters mention!!

REGISTRATION FORMS AND SPONSOR PACKS

To register, you need to complete one of the A5 flyers which can be found in local shops or from a member of the committee (Natalie Marshall, Terri Watt, Dawn Falconer, Graham Ross, Molly Marritt or Lynsey MacKenzie) and send in to the address on the form and you will then receive a sponsorship pack.

Alternatively you can call in at Tescos, Thurso and pick up a pack from the Kiosk once you have handed in a completed registration form. There is no cost in registering. All participants are asked to try and raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship (please note this is only a suggested amount and you can still take part if you have not raised £50...but remember we are trying to raise money for charity!).

You can also register by contacting Peter Logie on peter.logie@clicsargent.org.uk, ring 01463 713080 or text “ThursoDip” to 078 891 19147.

If you are not keen on taking part but would still like to help out we are still looking for a couple of volunteers for stewarding duties. Please contact me here on the org or via our facebook page

If you have any questions or are having any trouble getting your hands on a registration form please feel free to contact me via the org.

Hope to see you all there!!
