This is probably going to be a shot in the dark, but hopefully someone out there can help.
I just found out today that my mother's paternal family originated in Inverness. Several generations ago there were 2 brothers, surname Finlay, who were sons of a Methodist minister. They both fell for Catholic girls, and their father said he would disown them if they continued the relationship. Needless to say they did. One emigrated to the USA/Canada, the other to Ireland (kilkenny).
I've always believed I was half Irish half Scottish, but suspected there was Scottish somewhere on my Mother's side because of the name. If there is anyone out there who knows of this story, please get in touch.
