This is our first post to this list.
Information is sort on David FAIRWEATHER b Bower 1878 served with the ASC MT in WW1 in France. We have not been able to locate his military records and are attempting to trace what units he would have signed up to. Also where his unit/company actually served during the war. Family folklore says that he was in the Somme.
He married Georgina Auld JACK in 1918 and they had 3 children.
His occupation was carpenter/joiner and they lived in Wick.

Other names that we are researching are
Jack, Auld, McLeod, Begg, Bain, Gunn in the Wick, Bower, Halkirk, Watten, Reay areas.
Any suggestions or info would be greatfully received.
Thanks

There is a book called "The Sword of the North" predominantly about people from the Parish of Bower who served in WW1.
The entry for David Fairweather reads as follows
"David Fairweather, R.A.S.C., M.T., son of Robt Fairweather and Catherine Fairweather, his wife Bower: born Lyth: educ. Stanstill: a carpenter & joiner. Attached to Roy. Naval Div. from time it arrived in France from Gallipoli, May 1916 to 1919"

I have had a look in the Monumental inscription book for Bower. There is a monument in Bower Cemetery for "Robt Fairweather, Kirk d27/7/1916 aged 69 his wife Cath Begg d 12/6/1921 aged 66 their family Peter d 9/8/1902 aged 16, Ann d 4/2/1954 aged 72, Cath d 20/12//1959 aged 70, Robert d 17/11/1964 aged 66 and Margaret d 17/8/1965 aged 71."

Hi Skifter
Thank you for your reply.
We were aware of "The Sword of the North" book.
On checking with our local library today it seems that no libaries in either New Zealand or Australia have copies of the book.
Does the book just give a precise of those persons from Bower who served? But no great details of where they actually served.
Thank you also for the Bower cemetery listings. We were lucky enough to visit the north of Scotland including Bower in 2008 so have pictures of the cemetery and surrounding areas.
Thanks again
