Anyone have any info relating to opening of a school in Wick. I have a postcard with photo of people at opening ceremony 1911

I think WHS opened the year before - I'm sure there was a bit in last weeks Groat in the 100 years ago today bit about its opening...don't have my copy anymore so sorry can't check.

There is a photo in the Johnston Collection of the opening ceremony on August 23, 1911. (Says Wick High School)

Betty is right the school did open in August 1911. Duncansbay it did feature in the Old Files. It mentioned about the work in progress and said that the school should be finished by the end of June the following year.

Thanks for that Venture - I knew I'd read something about it but I'd left e paper with my Granny so couldn't look it up.

Hopefully 100 years after the first one was built we will have a definite decision on the new one.:)

A friend told me that recently she was at a talk on Education in Caithness and that the person giving the talk said a decision to build a High School in Wick was made in the early 1890's but it wasn't started to be built until 1910. Doesn't this sound familiar.
