Sorry, Kodiak. I couldn't fill in my details as I am slap-bang in the middle of transferring my ISP to BTInternet and have already registered my interest in Infinity (do I get a free SkyRanger?).

Big important secret news.
An announcement is imminent, I believe.
Can't believe BT would use this method to decide their provision policies! I'm not voting....

BT did exactly the same with the introduction of BroadBand. Enough people showed an interest by phoning up, so Caithness had BroadBand earlier than they would have done.
The same goes with infinity. If enough people show interest then they will consider adding Thurso to the faster network. Lets face it it would not be good business to add the faster network to a location where no one was interested in it.
It does no harm to vote and it only takes a minute so I do not see why there should be a problem in voting.

Only 106 votes so far. It would appear that not many people in Thurso are interested in super fast broadband.

Just to reiterate:
Superfast broadband on way for Highlands (http://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/Article.aspx/1952360)
And from today's P&J -
Push to bring superspeed broadband network to north (http://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/Article.aspx/1953921)
There are moves afoot, and an official announcement is imminent.
If NTL can't get cable up here, BT aren't going to :(

BT already have fibre optic running up through the Highlands and on to Orkney (http://www.heraldscotland.com/bt-to-lay-fibre-optic-cable-from-orkney-to-thurso-1.884127), so it would only need the local networks to be swapped to fibre optic and this is what Infinity and the voting is all about.
It is OK to vote, but market forces will dictate. It will take long before higher speed services are available in Caithnes simply because there is not enough business to be had. Rural areas will be left behind again. I am still trying to get OpenReach to clean up the 5 miles of antique phone line for my ADSL. Will be a while before they upgrade it to fibre.
There are alternative technologies for broadband services. In developing countries where copper phone-lines are poor quality, non existent or simply gets stolen and population is spread, they deliver broadband over WiMAX, a radio-technology with range up to 30 miles and speed up to 70 Mbps. A few transmitters and the whole of Caithness is covered.
It could be set up as a community broadband.
Quick Survey: Anybody else willing to pay £50/month for a 40 Mbps line ?

Looks like MA was right (http://www.caithness-business.co.uk/article.php?id=1895) and both Thurso & Wick look set to cash in on superfast broadband links. yahoo - bring it on I say :D:D

I don't know if you're right, but I hope you are.
I'm sceptical if it will happen in Caithness, but the real doubters should realise that it wouldn't be such a huge logistical exercise to make it happen.
There was MAJOR work done in the last 5? years to run fibre optic cables up the coast. I remember it happening over many months, you could see the work alongside the A9 between here and Inverness.
Extensions to these cables were run between here (Murkle or Dunnet - can't remember) to Iceland (or was it the Faroes?) to provide them with communication links.
Running cables from this connection to telephone exchanges or even individual homes in Caithness would not be beyond the realms of possibility.
