Spotted this on the structure of The Oppurtune at Scrabster and wondered why the cat?
Is it because the cat is an opputunist or is there a deaper story?

Hi Lizz, I don't know anything about the cat but I would guess it's to do with superstition.

From memory the "old" Boy Andrew was renamed "Opportune" after the "new" Boy Andrew was built and launched in 1986. Both boats remain in the ownership of the Bremner Fishing Company. The head of the company is Norrie Bremner. The Boy Andrew is skippered by Norrie's son Andrew and the Opportune is skippered by David Fraser, from Lybster.

Google wasn't very helpful but you can maybe try contacting Norrie from here :-

Many thanks to all those who have contacted me with regard to this.

I take the liberty of passing on what i have been told.

Many years ago a herring drifter was rammed by another boat in Wick harbour. A Mr Bremner jumped onto the damaged vessel to rescue the cat that was on board and from then on earned himself the name of "Catty."

What a charming story and yet another mystery solved.

I am informed that there is another cat on "The Boy Andrew," will have to have a close look the next time I see it in Scrabster Harbour.
