Roe Buck barking

While out walking the dog this morning a roe buck wandered past us , he stood and looked for a bit then ran a bit further away and started barking , it was a weird kind of bark, if i had not seen him and knew what it was i would have been kinda spooked, is this normal for them .

yes, roe will bark when threatend, or to chase off other deer on ther patch, can be quite alarming at night in the dark :eek::lol:

The running off and then stopping to look back is very typical behaviour of Roe. Barking is also common; but doesnt happen every time, usually when they feel threatened. This must be the end of the Roe rutt so he may have had his mind on other things!

Was it definately a bark or more a ghostly whistle?

yup a very sharp bark hard to explain what it really sounded like,
