I have finally hit a dead end. I have a Mary Swanson married to a Donald McLeod with a daughter Margaret b. 1786. I can't get any further back in the Mary Swanson search.
Donal MacLeod b. 1750 son of Donald MacLeod and Anna Henderson. No further with this Henderson

Donald MacLeod b.1734 son of Alexander MacLeod and Jeanett Henderson. No further with this Henderson
Alexander b. 1713 son of William MacLeod.

Any further details on where to look etc would be gratefully received.
