Hi just wondering if someone could help,
my son's xbox will not read any discs
the message is unable to read disc.
does anyone know or had this problem.

have you tried a disc cleaner disc?

yes tried that too,
it will not read anything, wondering if i bought
a new disc drive would that work. thanks

typically yes
but as you have to pull the thing apart anyhow.
i'd be inclined to clean the lense of the laser reader first.
shot to nothing.
use meths and a cotton bud
then dry with the other end.

what do you mean by not moving?

along the screw bar to position itself
or the up down focus.

pull the lense on its carrier to the outside edge.
then power the thing
when you next look has it travelled up the screwdrive ?

i have tried, it has travelled up the screwdrive but stopped is it meant to do that as i don't have a clue. thanks

that proves the drive is ok thus far

now, so it must just be a seek focus error.

so your comment of it not moving is now out the window[lol]

cant think of anything more you can try
unless you look in the forums elsewhere

well after trying this it will play games but we are putting it back together just now, fingers crossed it will still work, thanks for your advice.:)

poss just crap on the screwdrive

i bet you have, but its always a good idea to clean everything with atleast airspray
and moving parts like that screwdrive very often need a clean and a light lube too.
