Can I fax to and from my pc without having a fax machine? And how? Is it free or does it cost, seeing I dont want to have to pay for it?
Help please:)

If you still have an old style 56k (or similar) modem in your PC then it shouldn't be a problem - easiest way to find out (XP instructions) is to go into Control Panel > Phone and Modem Options > Click Modems tab and see if there's any modems listed. If so then let us know and we'll take it from there.

Cost will be the same as making a phone call to the same location, so it's not expensive.

However unless you really need to fax, I'd recommend scanning & e-mailing the item you need to send as that will produce far better quality results.

I use efax (www.efax.com) which gives you one month free. it gives you an 01955 or 01847 number (in my case an 0131 number) to receive incoming faxes into your email inbox with a PDF attachment as the fax. you can send faxes too. very easy to use.

myfax looks good too.

Hi Bob,

pc says motorola usb modem - not present!
and
standard modem - com 1

dont know if thats any use or not?

the outgoing faxes is the most important.

I'd definately look at the option Stefan posted - far easier than going through checking for modem and setting up software.

Myfax.com/free looks good, free is good!

Efax is OK too, I got 3 months free out of them by calling up to cancel, each time they extended the free period!!

I use http://www.popfax.com/ for outgoing faxes. Cheap and easy to use.

For incoming faxes I got a VOIP no, £2.50 one off fee for life and it sends all my faxes to email which is great 'cos I can get them on my Blackberry or iPhone (and I guess other email phones too) and this is free.
