View Full Version : Rope control halters for horses/ponies
Would anyone be interested in buying made to measure rope, control halters. I'm just guaging interest before I buy rope and fasteners in bulk. I would probably be able to do plain ones for £10 and ones with a hook fastening for about £15. These are rough prices only though...
This is the sort of thing I mean...

Count me in, would be great to have a local source. Good luck
The rope has now arrived and I can do them in blue, red, green and yellow. I'm also looking to bid on some pink/lilac rope too for girlies ;)
I've also adapted the design to include knots to work on the pressure points on the nose and poll - these offer more control for the more difficult neddy ;)
I can also offer the basic design in thicker rope (10mm instead of 6mm) so they are a little softer in action. This rope is a bit more expensive so the price would probably be a couple of quid more...
I have also sourced some leather rope so I can make field safe ones too - these would work out about £25 though.
Also for £25 I can make neon/glow in the dark (orange, green or yellow) or reflective (lilac, blue (light, mid, dark), red, orange, yellow, pale pink, turquoise, burgundy and green (neon, mid, dark)).
I've also found a design for a rope bridle! Bit carried away lol

Im really looking forward to getting mine and promise to post pics for you with the boys wearing them.
Just made a diddy one (shetland/foal sized) and Freddie is modelling it - he's so not happy about it...

The weird knot on the noseband isn't a knot - it's wrapped to make it kinder...
Carried away? Me? Never!
I have know worked out how to make the jig and am in the middle of doing the instruction on how to make them (a request from a friend who offered £££ for their own kit). I may start selling the kits too http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif
How young a horse are they suitable for --eg a 3 month old little rascal?

They are quite strong in the action but I can make them with padding over the nose and poll part to make them softer for the foal.
Me then for a foalie one and one for a 16.2 thoroughbred stallion. What do you need for measurements

Brill :)
I need the measurements, in inches, around the nose, just below the cheek bones and the measurement from cheekbone to cheekbone over the poll.
Like on this picture but the measurement needs to be against the the skin not dangly like the pic...

Does that make sense?
Also would you want more knots on the 16.2 nose/poll part for more control, or just standard?
Oh and what colour? I have red, blue, green, yellow (though not for foal size), white with blue flecks (though not for foal size) and white with pink flecks.
Oh and also would you like the metal fastener or plain knot tie?
The prices work out as I originally put in the first post and that includes postage or personal delivery (if local).
Could be tricky or I wouldn't need them--will get back to you!

You mean tricky for the measurements?
I could just do a standard size for a foal and horse and if they are too small/big I can adjust them...
I'm in the middle of writing instructions on how to make your own rope halter. Anyone fancy critiquing the first couple of pages in terms of the layout/professionalness?

I've made a new design one - it's reflective (and I have glow-in-the-dark rope too) so is great to wear under the bridle for hacking! It's also thinner than the other ones so is pocket sized to carry around for emergencies (or to fool those neds who are difficult to catch...). Because it is thinner rope I have done special 'padding' knots on the noseband and poll part so it is kinder.
The rope for these is quite expensive and they are time consuming to make so I would be charging £20 for them. I did buy enough rope to make 7 halters but they have all now been reserved so there will be a delay on any orders unfortunately.
