Hi
I have been told that you should be careful when disposing of rhubarb leaves as they are poisonous. Does this mean poisonous to people, animals, other plants or what?
Only know that the leaves should not be put in the compost bin
I boiled mine down and used the juices as a pesticide. I've put the mush in the ground by the front door and it seems to keep the midgies away :)

They have oxalic acid in them, enough to cause stomach upsets if you ate them but the compounds are broken down during composting. I don't have any trouble composting mine. Probably if you had a massive heap of leaves there would be an effect but otherwise I don't think there's really much to worry about!
I like to err on the side of caution
They are poisonous/toxic to animals if eaten.
