This is an extension to our first post.
The following sets out the Mowat line as we are seeing them.
On the 1867 marriage register for John Mowat (Traveller to Aust. in 1857) and Grace Allan, it states John's parents as John Mowat and Barbara MacKay.
John (b:7Jul1809 d:23Mar1887) and Barbara (b: abt. 1806 d:1Oct1868) were married on 3.Dec.1830 Wick. They have been found in the 1841 census living at Winless. At 1841 we also see five of their six children.
The death indices for both John and Barbara show their parents.
(It's at this point that we need the help to expand on our current information.)
John's parents are shown as - Andrew Mowat and Mary Begg. They married 7Jul1804 Wick. Of births and deaths - Mary could be either 1771 or 1784, nothing is known of Andrew (or sometimes shown as Andw).
Barbara's parents are shown as - John McKay and Janet Sinclair. They married 21Dec1798 Reay. Of births and deaths - John b; abt 1771 d: abt 1841, Janet b:abt 1769.
The following sets out the Donaldson line as we are seeing it.
James Donaldson(b: abt 1832 d: 1923) and Ann Bain (b: 6Nov1843 d: 1885) were married on 9Aug1861 Keiss Wick. At the marriage the only parent shown as dec'd was James's mother Isabella.
(It's at this point that we need the help and advice to expand on our current information.)
James (traveller to Aust.) parents are James Donaldson (b; abt. 1776 d: 4Mar1874) and Isabella (Bell) Mowat (b: abt 1800 d: btwn 1841 and 1861), they were married 21Dec1827 Wick.
James Donaldson's parents are shown as - James Donaldson and Ann Rolf (Ralf?), they were married 17Nov1781.
Isabella Mowat's parents are shown as - Andrew Mowat (b: d: ) and Isbel (believe this to be a short form or misspelling of her name) (b: d: )
The following sets out the Bain line as we are seeing it.
Ann's marriage - see Donaldson above.

Ann's parents are shown as - Donald Bain (b: 1May1807 d: ) and Catherine Rosie (b: 19Aug1811 d: ), they were married 3Feb1843 Thurso.
Donald Bain's parents are shown as - Donald Bain (b: d: ) and Alexandrina Craig (b: abt 1765 d: ), they were married 6Feb1790 Wick.
Catherine Rosie's parents are shown as - James Rosie (b: 23Dec1776 d: ) and Elisabeth Dunnet (b: 9Feb1781 d: ), they were married 10Aug1801 Canisbay.

This is my first post on the forum. We have come here in the hope of getting help to expand our knowledge of the roots of Ethel Ann Mowat.
This lady is the grandmother of my wife. She was born in 1895 in Maryborough, Victoria, Australia. Both her parents - John Mowat (b:1868) and Mary Jane Donaldson (b:1871) were born in the area.
Three of Ethel Ann's grandparents were born in Caithness - John Mowat (arrived Aus in 1857) and James Donaldson and wife Ann D [Bain] (arrived 1862).
We have begun the journey back to the generation before these three and beyond, and it's this information we'll be seeking help to confirm and expand - e.g. the Mowat, Donaldson and Bain families that form the roots of Ethel Ann.
In the next 24 hours we'll begin to document the information we have found and show the gaps we look to fill.
Beyond the three names above we also see as part of our investigations - MacKay (McKay); Begg; Sinclair; Craig; Rosie and Dunnet.
We look forward to the journey.
