oh my...where to start...there can be so many things to think about...from which settings to use, which lens, what to include in a picture...what not to include...a million and one rules...which you can follow or not..

what sort of photos do you want to take?
what do you want them to look like?

you should prob read up on what the camera functions are and what they do...take test shots of something with these differents setting so you can actually see the difference...

read up on focusing, exposure, depth of field etc...

take your time and do it a bit at a time and dont try to do everything from the offset. Choose something today to learn about..find out how to do it using your camera manual...take plenty shots...you will soon learn what works and what doesnt...

most of all have fun and dont be put off by anyone else, if you like the shots that you have taken then great..by some magazines and surf the internet...if you like a particular picture ask someone or surf the net to find out how it was done...they may or may not tell you but you can only ask..
I could probably go on all day but i think you prob get the idea..

maybe someone else has some better suggestions for you..good luck

Well Im no expert, as everyone will tell you! But is looking like a good start to me! So my INexpert advice it to experiment with everything, take thousands, find the 5 you like best, do it again and again and NEVER be put off by what others say!

Welcome to the photo forem. I've had my camera for over two years and still experimenting!
As Happy Guy said, just try all the settings, I take hundreds of pictures most of which end up deleted usually because it does n't do justice to the subject matter.
I like the second picture you posted but then I do love the cliffs and the sea.

Looks to me like you are doing pretty well. You could try a few magazines like Digital SLR Photography for the basics but if you like a pic then it is good.
