Clouded Drab is an extremely variable moth ranging in colour from dark warm brown hues, like this example, through lighter browns to ones with greyish tones. It is a common Spring moth appearing in Caithness at the end of March and remaining with us until the latter half of May. It over winters underground as a pupa with the fully formed moth inside. The larva feeds on a range of broadleaved trees.
