I bought a newlaptop and it only has a 60 day trial of word on it. What is the best way to install this permanantly and will this be something I have to pay for.
Thanks, Jenni

If you want the full version you'd have to pay, I'm not sure but I think its about £60 or £100. Open Office (http://openoffice.org) is good software but free.

Certainly recommend Open Office. Good package and free :)

Another recommendation right here, some of the things it can do:

Open MS Office XML based formats (DOCX, XSLX etc)
Save in MS Office formats
Export to PDF without requiring any add-ons or third party software

There is also Abiword (http://www.abisource.com/) if you're looking for something lite but I'd recommend Open Office over it.

If you want to find out how much an MS Office or Word license costs check http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/MLA/ but it depends on a few variables, they do completely gouge small to medium businesses though.

I should mention both Open Office and Abiword are free as in beer and speech.
