Last year we had about 60 - 70 visiting us (counted 'em on an electricity line when it was drizzling) but this year only 5 are here - I know there's a virus around, but did/does it decimate that badly?

we're in kirtomy and we have quite a few visiting our bird table (about 20). don't know how that compares to last year as we didn't live here then. we also have a pair of song thrushes, dunnets, sparrows, goldfinches, blue tits, great tits, starlings, robins, blackbirds, chaffinches, a seagull and 2 cheeky little mice!

Finches are really beautiful, the Green Finch or 'Green Linnet' as it is commonly called in Scotland can be pretty territorial. Quite often I've seen a Green Linnet bully another bird from the same branch, their lovely song is pleasant to hear. I may be mistaken, but I think that it is only the male who sings, but the female will make calls to the male. Anyway nice to see them after the long winter nights. :)
