The chimneys were from the pavement works at Thurso East. The rough stone was transported to the works from the quarries at Weydale. At one time there was a small rail track from Weydale down past Mountpleasant to carry the rough stone to the works.

Been awhile since I logged on, this photograph is between 1872 and 1876. There are two slightly different versions I have seen of this.

Post Plasticjock pictures of beach and harbour

Once again, thank you Plasticjock for the old photos. It was nice to see the ships in the harbour (remember hearing about them a long time ago) and the photo on the beach, showing the castle.

I recognise a few of the faces in the BB's Pipeband photo, jacktar.

What a fabulous photo, plasticjock! I wonder what those four triangles are on top of the cliffs? The gable ends of two cottage ruins, perhaps?
I am living for today, always remembering yesterday, and looking forward to tomorrow!

    Thumbs up

Previously a post had been made about some photographs of Thurso and Scrabster which the owner wished to have published on the internet for the public to view.

On the Thurso Heritage Society website there is now uploaded, ‎58 photographs of Thurso and Scrabster in the Jack Wood collection. With kind thanks to Mr J Smillie who very kindly allowed us to post them on the site.

To view them visit thursoheritage.com and then go to the photograph section and then the Jack Wood Collection.
