I was waiting for my O/H in the Tesco car park in Thurso today and was surprised to see a couple of House Sparrows hopping along the kerb border of the car park and picking dead insects off the grilles and bumpers of parked cars.

I was surprised at how many sparrows there are on moving up here - they are seriously on the wane north of the border. Gone are the days they were the most common bird
