Hello, I get the feeling I've asked this questions before, but, can anyone find me a decent PA system (that is to say 2 speakers and a head unit?) for under £400?
Just for a band using 2 acoustic guitars and a drumkit/cajon...
I like that Orange make but dayuumn they are expensive...

If you are wanting a decent system then buy a second hand passive system.
Then at least you can build on it, upgrade gradually and if something breaks then its not a major hardship to replace.
Buying a new small PA isnt going to hold its money whatsoever and will not make a very good job of doing the vocals or the acoustics (im assuming) you will be thinking of putting through it.
Look on ebay for a separates system of around 300watts/side or so and go for something with not less than 12" main drivers in them, anything smaller will sound thin at volume.
If you are patient, you will find a bargain.
good thread kenneth, i was going to post the same question.
Im looking for exactly the same to get me and a mate up and going..
thanks
Check out the PA for sale in the Org musical instruments for sale column, Burstbucker is the seller, quality PA at a good price.
Behringer?
You're having a giraffe!
Behringer are amazing Jeid
Pictures of you, litter my floorboards.
Clearly stay away from Behringer...can anyone suggest good makes?
Absolutely nothing wrong with Behringer mixers, they do a good job at a great price.
Of course he could go for this Allen & Heath mixer at £4,862.30 but it might be a tad over budget!

Aye, there's nothing wrong with Behringer mixers... until they break, which isn't so much a possibility, but a foregone conclusion.
Well done on looking up the internets, have a cookie..
Sorry, I took a bite, I was hungry..

Never had one break yet, you must have been unlucky Jeid.
I wouldn't bother spending my money on it.
Everything else they make breaks.[/quote]
And neither you should if it's not your cup of tea (and cookies)

I ain't a fan of Behringer either tbh. They are cheap for a reason, they are not very good.
Our PA desk is average at best.
Their stompboxes are poor.

On a pure bang for the buck count can't recommend Behringer enough. Like Douglas I've never had a failure yet and I currently own and use 4 different desks from this company. I recommed flight casing as much of your rig as you can afford too as this tends to be very under looked (budgeted for) and gear in transit / packing / unloading is when much of the wear and tear occurs.
Also think about big temperature changes when taking gear from a cold van / trailer (especially in the winter) to a hot humid venue / pub. This can also cause problems with sensitive electrics.
Good luck with your PA search. £400 is a fairly tight budget to work with (though it can be done).
All the world's a stage and we are merely players . . . . .

For £550 it is a good quality PA. Burstbucker looks after his gear so it's not going to be hashed.
You don't like Behringer fair enough, but as Deemac says if you look after it, it should serve you well.
At the end of the day Kenneth is on a budget and we all have to start of somewhere. I remember playing in a band with a pair of Soundcity PA columns and a Marshall PA head, not exactly sonic excellence but we thought they were the bees knees at the time.
I've no doubt he does, I've seen some of his gear and it all looks immaculate.
Yeah, I'm sure if you wrap it in cotton wool, it's fine. But Kenneth said he's on a budget so getting the cotton wool (cases) he needs to baby it isn't keeping things on budget. It's not that I don't like Behringer, they amuse me... it's not often you get a piece of equipment that you know is gonna fail.
Anyway, Behringer. I wouldn't, not even if you paid me.
