DISTILLERY OPERATIVE, FULL TIME 37.5HRS PER WEEK
An exciting opportunity to start your distilling career at an award-winning Rum, Gin and Whisky Distillery in Caithness.
PURPOSE & SCOPE OF ROLE:
This Distillery Operative role sits within North Point Distillery’s Operations team and will provide a suitable candidate with the opportunity to gain experience across the breadth of production operations, cask warehousing, commercial bottling and logistics.
Day-to-day tasks will take place across our two production facilities in Forss, West Caithness working within a four-strong team managed by our award-winning Head Distiller, Greg Benson. A production foreman will provide daily tasks based on a monthly production plan and will support any ad-hoc activities required by the business.
In addition to on-the-job training, this development role position will provide structured learning through the Institute of Brewing and Distilling, a qualification recognised throughout the spirits industry. A further qualification (SVQ) in Food and Drink Operations will be available for those who wish to take advantage of a structured learning environment in future years.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The safe operation of distillery plant and equipment to produce ‘wort’ for Rum and Whisky;
- Daily monitoring of fermented product for quality control, alcoholic strength and volume;
- Daily cleaning of tanks, washbacks and production equipment;
- Daily cleaning of work stations, production floors and shared production space;
- Ad-hoc support for liquid transfers, including bulk movements for further processing;
- Supporting bottling line operations, including the processing of non-dutied product for UK internal market use;
- Supporting re-racking and re-gauging activities for internal and external casks held in our warehouse;
- Supporting the safe empting of stills and removal of co-products for on-site disposal;
- Provide daily and weekly stock control, including malt grain volumes, molasses volumes and fermented product ‘in tank.’;
- Contribute to a safe working environment through hazard spotting, near miss reporting, behavioural safety auditing and participation in site-wide meetings;
- Assist the distillery teams as required (in both production and non-production activities);
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Driving Licence is essential (limited car-pooling from Thurso, Reay or Melvich is possible)
- Good numerical and literacy skills (oral, written and reporting)
- Working knowledge of the Google Suite system (or similar)
- Previous experience of working within a production or warehousing environment would be a benefit.
- Forklift experience is of benefit
- Successful candidates should be prepared to support a diverse number of roles within the distillery; e.g., distilling, due-diligence, pick-and-pack, etc.
- Ability to self-motivate and make autonomous, informed decisions is essential.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
- Be able to lift 25 Kg safely and unaided
- Comfortable with occasional working from height
