I woke up with indigestion and was rewarded with seeing the Northern Lights, some pictures taken between 1.30 and 4 am below:
Beautiful photos richardj! I didn't realise you could see them then as others saw it at 8pm.

Hi Liz, unfortunately I did not notice the lights on Sunday evening - I did not see the Aurora until I got up after midnight on March 7th - then stayed up taking pictures for a few hrs. The Northern Lights were still glowing on Monday night as well. Pictures taken on Monday night below.
Did anyone get advance warning from AuroraWatch? (Fantastic photos above again!)

AutoraWatch issued an apology via twitter and on their webpage a couple of days ago

Thanks for that richardj - I did think it was strange that they hadn't sent anything!
Yes, I wrote too and asked why we did not get Alerts, they sent this: http://wp.lancs.ac.uk/aurorawatchuk/...and-heres-why/ Very honest of them "we got it wrong last night and heres why".. Never mind

http://www.spaceweather.com/ have a world map showing the current Aurora oval, also warnings of solar storms which indicate a good chance of Auroras. I was lucky enough to get my pictures used by the BBC on the weather bulletin, but still cant fathom out how to post them on here!
The Northern Lights are happening now - 8.50pm Monday Night - March 14th
Worth having a look.
Where about would be best to catch them?.. iv never seen them and always miss it
Toadles ... I tend to look towards John O'Groats from the Watten area. They have gone "off" at the moment - 9.47pm so they were only briefly seen tonight. That said they could easily become visible later on.
You do need to go to an area where there is not too much light pollution, and I believe over the next couple of nights there is a good chance of seeing them. You can also check http://aurorawatch.lancs.ac.uk/ to see if there is any activity. Not showing anything for tonight yet it was visible, but not spectacular over Caithness earlier tonight.
Pictures taken just after 9 pm
