What was Zippy supposed to be?

Zippy from the kids programme Rainbow.What was he?

Bungo was a bear.
Geoffrey was a guy,now workin' in Sainsburys(allegedly)
George was a Pink Hippo
Rod,Jane and Freddy were singers(allegedly)

Zippy though was a matter of great pub drinking banter.
I always thought he was the love-child of a Smash robot with a brown face-cloth.Any other ideas?

No idea cedric, poor zippy was only ever mentioned as Loudmouth..

Everyone's favourite pink Hippo spent his tenure in the Rainbow house playing with his cars, dolls, transposing Samuel Barber's 'Adagio for Strings' to play on the Twanger and Plinky-Plonker, wearing curlers and shouting Woo Woo when the going got tough.
