Thread: Robins and feeders

    Default Robins and feeders

I thought robins were supposed to be ground feeders and didn't eat from bird feeders at all - well, no-one told the one in my garden that!

Also, anyone else having a bumper year for chaffinches? I counted 12 while I was watching this morning.

    Wow what great photos!

Yes I've seen the robin at the feeders as well and lots of Chaffinches visit my garden.

    Default Great Photos

Traditionally, they say the robin does not feed from a feeder, but with the weather being what it is just now, it would not take much to get them to feed out of your hand.

We have just got back from visiting some fiends and they have quiet a few chaffinches feeding in there garden, nice to see them.

    Great photos. Well done!

I'm in the lucky position of having three robins, all in different parts of the garden. Being very territorial birds, they normally avoid each other like the plague, but during recent days I've had all three in the vicinity of the feeding station at the same time. Two of them are using the feeders, but not at the same time. Occasionally, a couple of them have a bit of a squabble, but not like the 'fighting to the death' that I've read about. Hunger conquers all!

I don't have any more chaffinches than normal. I seem to get more greenfinches than anything else.
