Mmm, well I have to admit I prefer the original crop, I think the trail of red light continuing to the corner is more effective. The original has a better feeling of space.

Just goes to show its all about personal taste,i thought there was too much space at the bottom.If you had a group of photographers all taking shots of the same scene then i doubt very much if you would get 2 the same and all probably thinking there perspective is the best one.
Btw,what do you call a group of photographers??
Google gave some amusing suggestions,if its a large group then its an overexposure.
There's also a snap,a gaggle,a click and a clique.

MPH, agree, personal taste is one of the important bits, if we all liked the same thing it would be a boring world.

Like the ideas for names, a few more suggestions:-

A group of photographers using film - A Roll.

A Group of Digital Photographers - A Pixilation.

The edit involved making the top line of stars running accross the street parallel with the top of the image by skewing up on the left edge. There was also a minor crop at the bottom (because of the skew edit).

How do you edit to make the stars line up with the top when the window frame bottom right is still the same - off vertical going by the rh edge of the print ??

In photoshop - 'Control A' (to select all), menu - 'edit', 'transform', 'skew' - grab a control point and adjust to suit. Then crop the blank space out. You could also use the 'distort' facility found in the same location. How much you can edit without noticable distortion wil be content dependent.

what a difference a week can make - last weekend hard frost, today (Sunday) snowing! Anyway, dying to try out new tripod and cable release so got up early. Results below. Many strange looks from passers by as I climbed over the fence into the square at 7am.

Great results Silversurfer,2nd is excellent.
I'm not too keen on the 3rd ,not because of the bins but because its a view of the back of a statue which is obscuring the view of the xmas tree.Perhaps a couple of feet to the left might have offered a better viewpoint and still be able to get both statue and tree in shot.
Still a very good exposure though,good even light and lovely colour tone.
