Caithness Moths - Anomalous
Anomalous is a very distinctive moth, rather slender and narrow near the head but in the male (as in this one) the wings broaden rapidly towards the trailing edge. It prefers upland grassy areas and moorland but can also be found on lowland heath and coastal dune systems. In Caithness it occurs in August and September and can be found on Dunnet links and dunes - this one was photographed on the wall of the Sea Drift Centre. It over winters as a caterpillar.
