    Grey seal gatherings

The Stags are not the only ones competing for the ladies at this time of year. The grey seals also have fights to see whos the bigger man.

Whilst others just chill out on the beach.

The Harbour porpoise also gathers in numbers of 20-50+ in Gills bay at this time of year and are just awesome to be in amongst.

Fab shots. Every year I tell myself I'm going to take time to go and look for a grey seal beach and every year I miss it!

I had hoped to get out to both the porpoise and the seals this week but the weather was not on my side. Thanks for the comments and Seabird found his first white coat grey seal pups today. Photo and info @ http://www.caithness-sea-watching.co.uk/index.html

    As did I!

I had a wonderful 2 hours watching them and would have stayed there all morning, but they saw someone coming and the beach emptied in about 2 minutes flat. More seals from this morning on my Flickr account:

Those pups will be about 10-14 days old as they are moulting already. Great photos.

Out again this morning - nicer weather and as a result the seals were mostly up and fishing by the time I got there!

First attempt at using my 1.4x converter - I lose the autofocus with it on this lens, this was the only shot I managed to get in focus out of about 40 efforts! Bobbing seals are not the easiest thing to focus on manually...
