I'd just like to say thanks for everyone's responses. I know many younger people who like older music. But older people who like current bands? From your responses I'm glad to find I'm not alone! Great bands mentioned too.
When I was a teen I remember my parents being disgusted with the first single I ever bought - Schools Out by Alice Cooper. It really did not go down at all well. My mum eventually came round to saying that some of the music I got into a little later was "quite listenable" - that would have been Floyd, Caravan, Camel and probably some Zappa. But my dad remained closed off preferring Glen Miller and Benny Goodman.
I'm glad that I am able to discuss (and sometimes try to understand) the music my teenage children listen to. So far, only "screamo" bands have failed to get my ear.
