I am interested in knowing where the settlement/town/croft of Achentoft was located. Not sure of spelling. This was near Dunbeath or Latheron Wells. Please reply to e-mail address: gunnrobme@juno.com.

    Thanks.

Bob,achentoft is not familiar. neither is latheron wells but latheronwheel is. try achnagoul, achavrole, achavanich or acharaskill. your namesake, robert gunn of dunbeath but living in west banks avenue, wick is very familiar with the area, placenames andthe people.

Achintoft is in Watten (confirmed by Wick Library)

in 1806 there were only a few families

Wm Sutherland, Esther Georgeson ch Wm, Alex, John, Janet, Esther

    Robert Stephen & Mgt Mackay

    James Smith

Chrtis Mowat, ch Alex, Janet, and Ian Mackay, Eliz Mowat serv

    Mgt Gow

    Elizabeth Alsherson

Achintoft is located on the bedn of the River Acharole which flows south from Loch Watten. I believe my Janet Gunn was born here in 1808 father David
