Question Virus vault in virus scanning

If, when your system has been scanned, "things" have been found and removed to the Virus Vault. what happens if , as one of the options available, you then "empty the virus vault". Where does everything go? Does it go back into your machines system, or are they truly gone forever, or until the next time somebody thinks it's fun to give someone a scare.

If you are using AVG free edition, then when you empty the Virus Vault the file is automatically deleted from your hard drive. If AVg detects any other viruses then it subsequently moves them to the "vault" - which in reality is just sector on your Hard Drive.
