    Default Ooohh.. I'm ANGRY!!!!

I just got an email claiming to be from the Attorney representing the victims of the Lockerbie plane crash. Supposedly I am the closest living relative of one Brian Dens on whose behalf a deposit has been paid into a Swiss bank as compensation for his death. Obviously I need to contact them to free up these funds… Blah! Blah! Blah!

I CANNOT believe that anybody would be sick enough to take advantage of such a horrific situation to try and con people out of money. ARGH!!!

Does anybody know of an email address I can forward this onto to make the authorities aware? It’s just wrong!

Default Dont get mad, get mailwasher :)

jjc, I get those all the time, they are hoaxes every one.

What annoys me more that getting these sent direct from a spammer is when some idiot forwards a chain letter (of similar content) to me.

I have to say that there are currently about 30 local "idiots" on my blocked e-mail list who seem to get sucked in by the lamest of "heartfelt" pleas for cash, help, mailing lists, deleting of files etc.

What really gets on my goat is that none of these idiots would have sent me a chain letter by snail mail, but they feel that its ok to pollute my inbox with this tripe.

A handy tip for those of you not wanting to be branded "idiot":

When you get one of these e-mails that asks to be forwarded to everyone you know, do a little research first, take any key word from the e-mail, like a name or medical condition, file name to be deleted, or incident as described and fire it into google, as with every e-mail I've been sent of this type, the chances are the first site returned by google will have a big explanation of what the hoax is, how many years its been floating round the net etc etc.

As with the e-mail that jjc received, a great number of these hoaxes are based around some major disaster or famous heart-ripping story. I've had ones about little children with brain cancer, Jamie Bulger's killers, 9/11, "we want to give you 25,000,000 dolah" (mainly from nigeria), "this e-mail is being tracked by microsoft and aol etc", the list goes on and on.

Tip for ya jjc, dont get angry, get www.mailwasher.net , and simply block everyone who does not have an internet age older than 3.

I also use it to block everyone who doesnt understand the need for proper anti virus protection, we all have a responsibilty to use the net/email with due care and attention, the excuse "but I'm just new to the internet" cuts nothing with me, these people have enough sense not to do these kinds of things to you in real life, so why online? Thats what really makes me angry

There is a website run by Nigerians begging people not to be taken in by the scams. It's at http://home.rica.net/alphae/419coal/ The people of Nigeria are throughly fed up of the bad image this stuff creates. They estimate that billions of dollars have been scammed out of people over the years since this started.

    jjc,
Not sure if it is still the case but contact your local cop shop and they may take it - I know the "We are holding 60 million Pounds in an account in The Bank Of @@@@" ones were being 'collected' for investigation.
