    Talking Metallica SECC Glasgow...

What a fantastic gig, Metallica have proven once again that they are the true masters of arena/stadium metal, they gave us a stage show to rival anything AC/DC, U2 etc can throw at us, awesome lazers, huge pyro explosions, movable coffin shaped lighting rigs, it was just fantastic in every way...and the sound?...just stunning, easily the best sound i have heard at an SECC gig.
The set list was superb as well, the 6 tracks from 'Death Magnetic' truly came into their own in the live setting, there were 4 tracks from 'The Black Album' and the rest from earlier material, they completely ignored the 'Load, Re-Load & St Anger' albums, which is not something i'm complaining about, i like 'St Anger' but i'm not bothered if i don't hear any live tracks from it.
My only complaint is that they only played the title track from 'Master Of Puppets' and 'One' from 'AJFA', but they did redeem themselves by playing 3 tracks from 'Ride The Lightning' which included 'Fight Fire With Fire' and 'Trapped Under Ice', it's only the 5th time in their entire career that they have played 'Trapped Under Ice' live, the inclusion of those tracks made the gig so much better for me personally, the only track that i could have done without was the Bob Seger 'Turn The Page' cover, i like the track, but it just didn't sit well with the rest of the set.

The band were as tight as i have ever seen them, on the two previous occasions i have seen them, in 1988 and 1996, Kirk Hammett has managed to screw up countless guitar solos, but this time he played brilliantly, there were a couple of timing issues which were down to Lars, but overall they were as tight as a nuns holliest of hollies, i was grinning like a cheshire cat by the end of it all, especially when about a hundred large black Metallica beach balls fell from the roof during the encore of 'Seek & Destroy', a brilliant way to end a brilliant gig

Support came from Machine Head, and they were truly blistering, before the gig i was actually more looking forward to them than Metallica as i've never managed to catch Machine Head live before, and i wasn't disappointed, they tore up the stage and had the crowd in the palm of their hands, a truly brilliant metal band, and Dave Maclain is a metal drumming god.
The first support band were 'The Sword', they might have been good...i couldn't tell, they had such a horrendous sound that i couldn't make out a single song or riff.

    Long live Metal...long live METALLICA!!

Nah mate, nothing beats that 88 gig for me, it was my first ever gig and nothing will ever top it
The cool thing is that i popped my gig going cherry to Metallica 21yrs ago and Mrs Giz popped her gig going cherry to Metallica the other night, i think she's been bitten by the gig bug now, she keeps asking..'When's our next gig..who we gonna see'

I take it you can't use your mobile when your offshore?, i did call you from the gig so you'll have a voicemail from when 'One' was playing, sent a txt as well.
Fingers crossed they will do a 2nd UK leg on this tour and you'll get to catch them.
