perhaps someone can give a hand.
I can fax easily from my pc to a telephone fax machine, but can't seem to be able to get faxes back. I get an 'incoming message' message, then after a few minutes, it gets 'timedout'. I use Windows XP and am on broadband, if that makes any difference.
Thanks in anticipation

Are the faxes free to send or are they on your phone bill?
A 1991 Gallup survey indicated that 49 percent of Americans didn't know that white bread is made from wheat.
I looked this problem up for a friend the other day who has just got broadband and coudn't send faxes. Actually I'm surprised you can send as according to the MS Newsgroups site, which is usually pretty reliable, it's not possible. This is what I copied off it -Originally Posted by Tom Cornwall
Don't know whether the "French" bit makes any difference!Question
I would like to know how to run Fax with an ADSL (French broadband) modem, at the moment it only seems to have the old dial up modem available on the fax console, I have tried adding a new modem but all it did was screw up. please can any one tell me how to get fax running on broadband?
Answer from MS
Unlike most dial-up modems, a broadband modem is not capable of connecting to fax machines, so you cannot send or receive faxes directly. Fax uses analog signals and broadband is based on digital. In order to send and receives faxes, you'll need a conventional fax modem with a live telephone line attached. You cannot use broadband unless you use a web-base fax service, such as eFax: http://www2.efax.com/en/efax/twa/page/homePage?rqcp=1 ; Or consider purchasing a conventional fax machine and connect it to your phone line.
The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.
Unfortunatly there is no possible way to recive a fax via broadband as the DSL modem is not capible. However you CAN install a standard data/fax modem and plug it into your phone line as you would a phone thus when a fax is sent to your computer the data/fax modem picks it up as an incomming fax and will recive it as would a normal fax machine.
Hope this helps
You can send faxes by e-mail if that helps, have a look here:
