Willow, willow and more willow they seam to stand up to all the wearther we get we are in an exposed area and they grow well, we have had a dozen or so Silver birch for the last two years they need supporting but so far they have been ok.
We have a very exposed coastal site but would really like to plant some trees. Does anybody have any suggestions as to which species might have a chance of growing?
Many thanks.

We have planted silver birch, alders, populus, whitebeam, rowan, willow all in a very exposed place, they are all coming on well apart from where roe deer nipped the top of two.
Thanks for all the tips. Can I ask where you got your trees from?
Many thanks
We bought ours from the garden center castletown, is you are looking to plant a lot of trees Christie Elite nurseries have a large selection, dont have a phone number best just to google thier name for more information.
We bought all our from a dealer in Northern Ireland through ebay they cost was far cheeper than local we bought 25 trees in bare rootduring the dormant season which is now for what it was going to cost for 3 in castletown. we have now had the trees for three years and all are doing fine.as forthe willow we took cuttings from a friends willow stripped all the growth back and planted them in the ground with a little support again all have grown very well. good luck

You must have got real bargain online as bare rooted trees at Castletown would cost you about £1 per plant unless you are not comparing like for like.
