    Sorry it's such a poor picture but even borrowed a camera with a bigger zoom and still got bad results!
    I was thinking Little Tern, saw 1 at Scrabster the same last week.

    According to my RD book the Little Tern winters in Africa and doesn't arrive in UK until late April, so unlikely to be one of them.

    Lizz, that is a winter plumage Black Guillemot, the black and white bird I referred to in the Smew thread. It caught me off guard the first time I came across one.

    Thank you both, well that's another new one for me, never seen a black guillemot let alone in winter plumage, did n't realise how small they are but cute anyway.
