    Default FESTINA LENTE

I visited Auckengill harbour today with my wife and children. At the top of the road that takes you down to the harbour, there is a kind of memorial with the latin words "FESTINA LENTE". On one side there is a date "1889" and on the other side is a lions head. We are very curious about what this could be. Is any one able to shed any light on this? I have done a web search and there are quite a few sites with this phrase, which incidentally is latin for HASTE SLOWLY.
A 1991 Gallup survey indicated that 49 percent of Americans didn't know that white bread is made from wheat.
