I am of course talking about being a teenage Metalhead, i'm 37 now and metal still runs through my blood as strong as it ever did, i may not dress like a metalhead and my bedroom isn't wall to wall posters from Kerrang, Metal Hammer and RAW anymore, but i'm still a metalhead, and not one just stuck in the past either, the current metal scene is probably the strongest it's been since the 80's, bands like Chimaira, Cancer Bats, Gojira, Trivium, Bury Your Dead, Scar Symmetry, Carnal Forge, Warpath, Evile, Frequency, Communic...i could go on, are all fantastic, and with the resurgence of thrash metal and many old school thrash bands over the last couple of years there has never been a better time to be a metalhead.

The only real change over the years has been an apprecation for other kinds of music, i always liked all the different genres within metal/rock and could quite easily go from listening to Winger to Kreator to Tesla to Ministry, but there was really nothing outside of metal/rock that i would listen to, but now i can find enjoyable music within Pop, Jazz, Classical, Country...pretty much most genres of music, except for hardcore disco biscuit music, god i hate that crap.

So i give a big...PAH!! to all the parents (including mine) who thought that being a metalhead was just a phase and that you would grow out of it.

I agree gizmo with time I have become more varied in my musical tastes.
In the 80's I was into Hip hop but also liked Punk and some rock,but now anything goes unless its anal(ly retentive ).
Afraid I have never been into "heavy heavy" stuff but still love "hard rock".

The heaviest I ever got was Metallica or Iron Maiden!!!! Just cant get into speed metal,though have tried-think its something to do with that double bass drum, it scares me!!!!

One of the greatest metal bands to ever pollute our ears, i was just playing 'Burn My Eyes' a few days ago for the first time in quite a few years, it's still a monster of an album and should really be lavished with the same legendary status that Master Of Puppets is, it's certainly the greatest metal album of the 90's.

I'm looking forward to seeing them with Metallica almost as much as i'm looking for to seeing Metallica.

Saw them with Metallica last year... in fact, I saw them with Lamb Of God(also missing from your list) and Chimaira last year... they were superb!

A fan of 36 Crazyfists? A superb name for a band I must say

Yeah, 36 Crazyfists are good, as are Lamb Of God, don't quite rate them as highly as other bands though, (Zappster will slap me for that.. he loves LOG) there are many many awesome bands missing from my list, but the most glaring ommison for me is the daddy of all modern metal bands..the mighty In Flames, they never got mentioned purely for the fact that they have been on the go for 14 years.

I'm not a huge Max Cavalera fan, the only Soulfly album i like is their new one, but for me Sepultura have done nothing of worth since 'Roots Bloody Roots', it was good, but Sepultura were at their best with 'Schizophrenia' 'Arise' & 'Chaos AD', the cd remaster of 'Schizo' is just superb, gives it a whole new lease of life, when Max left Sepultura he took the song and riff writing talent with him.

Agree completely. However, have you checked out Cavalera Conspiracy yet?

Still listen to Arise and Chaos AD regularly.
