    Default Windows XP SP3

Sorry to bring this up again but the download has finally arrived in my little yellow shield. Is it safe now?

It's as safe as it was when it was first released - it hasn't changed! What has changed is the feedback and information we have on it now (from the 'testers' AKA 'those who installed it first').

I haven't yet installed it, however I no doubt will soon, when I get some time to check out what effect it's going to have on me.

Thanks Paul - your turn to be the guinea pig . Won't do anything until we get your comments.

Maybe you can let us know how it goes when you've got it installed. If it hasn't changed from the original download, when it was being compared to Vista's SP1 (although maybe not quite so bad) I still don't trust it . At least you presumably have an IT dept. to rescue you - I don't.

Have to say I never upgrade my XP...and my male offspring spends every closedown waiting for the installation of upgrades.

Funnily enough, he has had more virus/spyware problems than I have! (I've had none for as long as I've had XP)

    So are they necessary?

I installed it straight away and had no problems at all, thankfully!

Oh dear - mixed messages. Usually these things are security updates, but if you have a good firewall and anti-virus are they necessary? What more protection do they offer?

I've done a few SP3 updates now and the only problem I had was with one PC whose optical drive disappeared afterwards. Ended up having to uninstall it on that system to get the drive back.

My first installation of SP3 completely killed my pc, I had to reinstall everything so I was hesitant to try it again but when I did it booted up just fine.
Why be a hard rock when you really are a gem!
