    Default Oatcakes

    Preheat oven to 180 or Gas 4 or a griddle

    8ozs Medium Oatmeal
    1/4 tsp Bicar Of Soda
    pinch Salt
    3 teasps Butter or Margarine or Lard
    1/4 pt Water


    put water and butter in a small pan heat until butter melted
    mix bicarb salt and oatmeal mix make a well in centre add water mix
    it takes a wee whiley for the oatmeal to absorb the water etc
    turn out to a surface very lightly dusted with oatmeal 6ins circles about 1/4 ins thick
    cut in either rounds or quarters place on a baking sheet
    bake in Oven for 20mins turning the Oatcakes over regularly (to stop them being stodgy )they should be crisp and light golden leave to cool on a wire rack

    Serve with a slab of Scottish Cheese

    dont let them Burn !

    Have never seen a recipe for them being done in the oven. My granny always used to do them on a griddle.

    Sounds good, might even give them a go!!

    Thanks for the recipe Anne! It's good to have a tried and tested one .

    We eat a lot of oatcakes, and I was thinking it was about time I made my own. The latest craze is to have them with goat's cheese and quince jelly.....mmmmm !
