    Default road closed Thurso

When I was coming home tonight out of Thurso the road was closed by the Dunbar Hospital, Police said there'd been a serious accident between there and the halkirk turn - anyone got any further info?

sorry to be thick here, but it says both had serious injuries so why the different hospitals? ( though i would assume the female more serious than the male as she went to raigmore) or would it be to do with accident investigation? genuinly curious here, sorry, and i hope they are both ok

I suppose some injuries can't be treated in Wick so it depends on the severity and the skills needed.

why does have to be really bad if it happened at 3pm, if it had happened at 4pm would it have have been really good. anyway i know people on here are anxious and very keen to find out if there ok or how much info they can get but lets have a bit of respect for the families involved...We dont need gossip going around on these boards about how bad a car accident is, all accidents are bad

I think you misconstrued what I was saying there. I was trying to lighten it and not speak about others miss fortunes at all . which you are absolutely right and should be discussed here

The comment was in response to Teddybears “ All accidents are bad”

The accident I referred didn’t involve vehicles just two people many years ago. Read it literally.. (I didnt mention crash)

different hospitals specialise in different injuries. for example, someone with a serious head injury would go to Aberdeen Infirmary, other serious injuries would go to Raigmore, but most go to wick to be treated before transfer to Raigmore, eg broken limbs, this is mostly because we dont have the scans needed for serious injuries in Caithness/Sutherland. hence the need for support for the ct scan to be in wick.

I couldn't agree more Fran. I was in Caithness General two years ago. The reason would only bore everybody.
When I was taken in the problem was only slight but within 24 hours there was a sudden worsening.

The illness was one where a CT scan within the first 24 hours, i.e. the sooner the better because there are two possible causes, is deemed to be very necessary in order start treatment ASAP.
Until the cause is known treatment cannot be started because each treatment is the exact opposite of the other and if the wrong one is chosen the result can be massive permanent damage.

With the original extent, and had treatment been started within the 24 hours I would probable have been home in a few days.
I ended up being hospitalised for over three weeks.
I don't know how much it costs to keep a patient in Hospital for three weeks but I am certainly glad I didn't get the bill.

All that, due to not having a scanner. It was four days before I was taken for a day out to Raigmore at more expense.
There were patients in Raigmore who were waiting for beds in Wick in order to be nearer home but were unable to return for lack of beds.
Additional expense for visiting family members. That expense will never show up on any official figures.

I'm sure that mine is anything but an unusual case, similar things must happen fairly often with the same knock on effects.

I know the Helicopter covers many places other than Caithness but I believe it costs five or six million every year and rising.
Better facilities at Wick could well save a lot of expensive emergency helicopter transfers. (I only needed an Ambulance trip )

A scanner in Wick would probable be paid for by savings from all the shipments between here and Inverness.
Animals I like, people I tolerate.

Not being funny or anything but these people who are going on about not discussing the accident etc, can they not read the title ? If it offends you then why are you reading and replying to this thread? Sheer curiosity I would say. It is only human nature to be curious when something happens!!
