Thread: Red Admirals and Small Tortoiseshells.....

Default Red Admirals and Small Tortoiseshells.....

Here in the centre of Wick I have seen very few butterflies this month. Yesterday afternoon I saw, visiting gardens in the street, about half a dozen red admirals but no small tortoiseshells. Although I did see a solitary small tortoiseshell last Thursday.
Is this observation typical of the county this year?

Yes I think there has been a big drop in the numbers of tortoiseshell flutterbyes...usually my garden is full of them but, this year I have only seen one. Usually around this time they come into the house and hibernate but, again there is only one so far who has came in to sleep for the winter.
