    Default Caithness War Memorials

The Scottish War Memorial Project has been running since December 2006 and now has over two thousand five hundred Scottish war memorials recorded. The project is forum based and relies on volunteers to join up or donate images. The images are then freely available to anyone with internet access.

1,223 of the 2,500+ memorials are the civic memorials on our main streets. According to our records there are 21 civic memorials in Caithness but we only have photographs of 11 of them so far.

What we're hoping for is for locals to join the forum and submit their photographs of local war memorials. Not only photographs though, we also would like information on the men and women listed on the memorial and any information about the design and materials or location of the memorials. Basically any bits of information about the war memorials of Caithness would be appreciated.

So far in Scotland we have all the civic memorials for these areas:

    Angus & City of Dundee
    Dumfries & Galloway
    Central Scotland - Falkirk
    East Lothian
    Highland - Badenoch
    Highland - Nairn
    Highland - Sutherland
    Isle of Bute
    Lanarkshire
    Moray
    Perth & Kinross
    Scottish Borders
    West Lothian

We also only need one or two memorials to complete these areas which would then mean we would have most of Tayside, Central and Southern Scotland recorded on the forum.

    Aberdeen City
    Central Scotland - Clackmannan
    Dunbartonshire
    City of Edinburgh
    City of Glasgow
    Isle of Mull
    Midlothian
    Highland - Islands

    Regards

Here's the details for Caithness on the Scottish War Memorial Project.

The ones in Caithness we have photographs of so far are:

    Berriedale & Braemore War Memorial
    Bilbster and Stirkoke War Memorial
    Dunbeath War Memorial
    Halkirk War Memorial
Latheron, Forse and Latheronwheel War Memorial
    Lybster and Swiney War Memorial
    Thrumster War Memorial
Ulbster, Clyth (Mid, East and West), Newlands and Roster War Memorial
    Watten War Memorial

We also have these memorials on the forum but we could do with more photographs of them

Wick War Memorial - Some names obscured by plants and no clear images of the statue
Thurso War Memorial - No photos of the name panels

We know of these memorials but we don't have any photographs of them so would appreciate help in getting them on the forum.

    Ackergill and Hempriggs
    Auckengill - St Clare Hall
    Bower
    Canisbay
Castletown and Olrig - Main Street
    Dunnet
    Keiss
    Reay
    Staxigoe, Noss and Papigoe
    Stroma

We are also looking for all sorts of war memorials though and not just civic one. We have the new HMS 'Jervis Bay' one and the Seaforth Highlanders plaque in Wick but we are looking for all sorts of memorials in churches, clubs, schools etc.

It's also worth pointing out that memorials are not just plaques on walls, they can take the form of rolls of honour, stained glass windows, lecterns, trophies, we've even had a memorial fireplace posted in the Edinburgh section a day or two ago.

Even if you can't help please take the time to visit the forum and have a browse through some of the sections to see the variety of memorials in our country.

    Regards

    Adam
