    Think it's a young one, but not sure which - s/he got surprised by a wave!

    Default What's this gull?

    Looks like a first year Lesser Black-backed Gull. The shot of the flying bird shows a white lightly marked rump and the primary feathers appear all dark without a pale wedge.

    Here's a photo of a first Winter Herring Gull showing the same features as the bird in question, (that one being slightly overexposed incidentally). Here's a couple of web links to a Lesser-black Backed Gull in flight for comparison, this appears to be a first Winter bird.
